A collaboration with local communities //

OUR STORY

The Boab Brewing Company Pty Ltd is collaborating with many local Kimberley Communities and their aspiring business people to bring back foods almost lost. In part, a social enterprise, in part, a perpetual farming economy, whilst offering a more diverse array of cuisine for all, plus make money to keep going.

Our first collaboration was with Bindam Mie (which means Bush Food in the Nyul Nyul language). Bindam Mie 100% owned and operated by Robert Dann, successfully created (or recreated from knowledge) an extensive range of products and was selling them at the Broome courthouse markets 2016/17.

The Boab Project was established to figure out ways to create products and job opportunities for Kimberley families on “country”. Country is an Aboriginal /English word that extends the simple white fella term ‘country’ to incorporate a much wider cultural meaning or link between the land and its people.

The Boab Tree

We’d like to introduce you to the WA Kimberley Boab Tree (Adansonia gregorii).

An iconic tree in the Kimberley region which has been used for many thousands of years by Aboriginal Australians as a food source (as well as many other uses, from medicine to twine and far more).

Acknowledgement

Bushys acknowledge the traditional custodians of all life, the land and waters that constitute this Country, now known as Australia.

We work together to keep this big place alive and healthy with an ever evolving culture with strong emerging leaders that respect and listen always to Elders, and their knowledge, past and present.
